The Central Valley enjoys Pleasant climates with an average temperature average 24º (77o F) all year around.

The Central Valley is located in the center of the country and it is surrounded by 2 mountainous mountain ranges and it climbs to a height of 1150 meters (3750 feet) on the level of the sea.

From San José, we drive about an hour towards the Braulio Carrillo National Park; one of the biggest in the country where you will be able to take the Cable Tram into the rain forest - one of the most exciting adventures Costa Rica has to offer.  When inside the rain forest, you feel like you are a part of nature in this lush and beautiful country.   

Continuing on, we follow the route towards Limon city, crossing between the banana plantations and farming activities towards the main Harbor of the country.  This is where Christopher Columbus discovered Uvita Island, right in front of the present dock in his fifth trip in 1452.  Jamaican and Chinese ethnic groups that live in this zone from its early days populate this zone.  Turning south from the Harbor, we drive along the border of the Caribbean coast under palms and lush vegetation that mingle with the waters that bathe the Caribbean coast.

Caribbean

You will travel through the banana plantations for about 45 minutes.  Here is where the delicious fruit is harvested and packed for shipment to the worldwide markets.  After a while, we arrive at Cahuita, the surfing zone, and in addition, we are going to find the beautiful zone Puerto Viejo and Punta Cocles.  Just ahead, we find Hotel Yaré.

Northern zone

We follow our route heading north towards the Arenal volcano area.  The route is different, with less traffic and many majestic mountains around.  We drive through colorful and traditional typical towns arriving at Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, departure point to decide if the tourist wishes to travel through the Lagunas de Tortuguero.  This is a waterway where we will find boats that take you by the Sarapiquí River.  In addition, you are able to visit the Northern country border with Nicaragua through the San Juan River, and return later to the departure point in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí.  Afterwards, you will take the route that leads to the city of San Carlos.

Here we have volcanic earth, high rain precipitations, Humid and Cloudy Forest, high waterfalls and majestic rivers, all nestled in the midst of splendid vegetation.

The Tourist Northern Zone, is the home of a great variety of wild life, the region combines the strong plains of Sarapiquí in Heredia, of San Carlos and Guatuso in Alajuela with mountain ranges that border the volcanic zone of Guanacaste and Tilarán.

Hotel Linda Vista del Norte Mountain Lodge

Its location is special because it is only 24 kilometers to the west of La Fortuna.  We follow the highway towards New Arenal turning aside at the police house towards the south, and at some 9 kilometers from this point we are expecting you.  You will be able to simultaneously admire the slope of the colossus Arenal Volcano and the beautiful waters of its lagoon.  Here, you will observe the best panoramic views of the imposing Arenal Volcano from a safe distance.

From this hotel it is possible to continue through the rustic highway (4x4 car is necessary) to visit MONTEVERDE in any season. Previously you had to ask for information about the river that you need to cross to arrive to the hotel.  Otherwise, it is necessary to go back 9 kilometers towards La Fortuna, to arrive again at the police house and take the route towards Tilarán.  From there you continue towards Monteverde.

Monteverde

We continue with the route  from the Arenal Volcano and the lagoon for one hour; then we arrive at Nuevo Arenal and then Tilarán.  In Tilarán, a shortcut exists and we can shorten our way towards Monteverde but the road is only for 4X4, whenever the river can be crossed.  A vehicle that is not 4 x 4 is not recommended because of the bad road conditions. This route is special for amusing yourself in a 4x4 car.

Monteverde is the kingdom of the cloud forest, the climate is cold, and rainy because the mountains almost touch the sky.

Fifty years ago American Quakers arrived in our country in search of an atmosphere of peace  and tranquility, they established the town of  Monteverde and dedicated  themselves to the production of milk and quality cheeses.

In this zone scientific studies and environmental training programs are made that have identified 400 species of bird, 100 mammals, 490 butterflies, 200 fems and 2500 other vegetal species.

South Pacific
